Maldives national team has departed to Thailand last night with a squad of 22 players and 8 officials for the training camp ahead of the AFC Challenge Cup 2012. Team’s skipper, Ali Ashfaaq will travel to Thailand to join the squad on 26th of this month.
Maldives will play an international friendly match against Thailand national team and other 3 Thai league opponents before flying to Nepal on 5th March 2012.
Speaking to maldivesoccer.com, Urbanyi said, “I think we are in a firm spot to win the trophy. We were the top of the group in the SAFF Championship ahead of Nepal who was training for three months. We were not good against India during the first half, but improved a lot in the second half and we should have won the game. We have the potential to win the trophy. We need proper determination, morale and personality”
Maldives will play their first match against Turkmenistan on 8th of March in the AFC Challenge Cup
