Maldives National team coach, Istvan Urbanyi’s main ambition ahead of the AFC Challenge Cup 2012 is to win the trophy for Maldives. Accordig to maldivesoccer.com, Urbanyi said that the Maldives national team has the potential to lift the trophy and they could do it with the proper determination, morale and personality.
“I think we are in a firm spot to win the trophy. We were the top of the group in the SAFF Championship ahead of Nepal who was training for three months. We were not good against India during the first half, but improved a lot in the second half and we should have won the game. We have the potential to win the trophy. We need proper determination, morale and personality”
“We had a lot of difficulties during our preparation for the tournament. But we have to respect the players, the clubs and the officials involved in the training. We had difficulties allocating time to the clubs. But then the AFC Cup is also an important tournament for the clubs. So we have to realize that and respect that. I am glad that we were able to have a good plan with the clubs”
Coach also noted that the training has been good and the camp in Thailand would be a good boost.
“I feel the training so far has been good. We have managed to improve the fitness level and the rhythm as well. The training camp will also be a good boost”
“Ashfaaq has suffered a minor injury and have been asked to wear a plaster. He will be alright within 5 days, but would join the training camp on 26th”
Urbanyi also asked his critics to attend his practices and to criticize after watching it.
“I don’t want to comment on what others think about my practices. I have a good bond with the players. I feel the critics who criticize should first come and watch our practices”
