Club Captain Anil Gurung gave the perennial Champions a chance to close the gap and leap-frog Macchindra into second position who earlier won against RCT.

Anil Gurung scored in six minutes early into the game. Manang Marsyangdi had a perfect start to the game. Anil Gurung headed in from 3 yards, when he was left unmarked at the far post. A Sujal Shrestha’s cross from the left flank couldn’t be dealt well by the Nepal Army’s defence and it fell kindly for Anil Gurung to head in MMC’s first goal. MMC then looked comfortable in the game. Despite some brilliant display by No 15 Raju Tamang for Army there was no worth watching for the departmental side. Bharat Khawas was nowhere in the game, as MMC’s midfield had a major share of possession.

Into the second-half, MMC displayed and played with similar nerve as they had before the start. But, a hand-goal attempt by MMC’s Captain Anil Gurung earned him his second Yellow card and subsequent dismissal in the 64th minute. Nepal Army Club then taking the man advantage started to dart forward. MMC went into defensive game and start to have a shaky spell in the game. But, the defenders played well till the Referee blew his whistle and MMC ran out 1 – 0 winners.

MMC’s Coach Chiring Lopsang:

“We wanted all three points and we got them. We dominated well in the game until Anil’s disimissal. He should have been cautious about getting a second yellow. His absence may hurt the team. He is the only recognised striker in our team. Our next game is against Friends and that may decide whether we can still challenge for the title”.

Nepal Army’s Assistant Coach Babu Kaji Dhaubanjar:

“Our players played with a sense of nervousness. They couldn’t deal well with the early goal and we never went into the game than after. Our chances of title looks doomed, but 2nd position looks realistic now. Our two consecutive defeats in the super league have erased our hope of title after 2063.”
